About

Namaste!

Let’s start with a confession: This madness for films, this lunacy, had caught hold of me when I joined Montage – The Film Society (Kirori Mal College, Delhi University). And it led me to the prestigious Prague Film School at the heart of Europe.

At PFS, I learnt the craft behind the sorcery of cinema. I made two short films there – ‘Entre Deux Stations’ (Between Stations, 2018, French) and ‘the Rose Seller’ (2019, Czech).

CUT TO:

Back in India, I got a chance to assist acclaimed filmmaker – Mr. Prakash Jha, on ‘Pareeksha’ (2019).  And by the end of the film when we were done with all the post-production, I received credit as 1st AD on my very first professional feature film. Watch the film here.

A short film called ‘Gulabi Lens’ (2019), starring Sohum Shah, Anushka Ranjan, and Vrajesh Hirjee, came next. I assumed the role of co-director with Saurabh Gupta (writer-director-producer), and also edited the film. This film found its home on Disney+ Hotstar. What the film here.

As of writing this, I am developing 2 films. The first in pre-production phase, and the second in research.

In 2020, I co-founded our very own production house with fellow filmmakers and collaborators. We named it ‘OverThought Films‘. OverThought Films is a digital content studio based out of Darjeeling, India. We tell your stories through our films – fiction, non-fiction, ads, and everything in between!

FADE:

As a film student, I value the technicalities of the craft as highly as the creative side of the art. And the training and conditioning I have received allows me to think on both lines when telling stories. And from my study of History, I inherited the tools by which to approach a subject, or a story. An understanding of the contexts and cultures helped me develop a better idea of the society and the role it plays in an individual’s story.

For me personally, a story is much more interesting when the central conflict is internal to the characters. There is a quote by Ezra Taft Benson that puts it best – ‘Some of the greatest battles are fought within the silent chambers of ones own soul.’ Such stories bring forth questions of morality and choice, and explore human nature and multiple layers of emotions. And in these stories, there is space for personal interpretation and dialogue between the characters and the audience.

And if the audience for these stories be considered – while there is definitely a larger one worldwide, there is a sizeable one in India too, thanks to the few good films made each year. Some of the recent ones, especially in regional cinema, make me hopeful.

That is all for now. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for questions, projects, collaborations or if you just want to chat.

Yours truly.
